The answer is yes, if your hiking boots suddenly fall apart for some reason. Thick sockets do help, too :D

Once I had to use a sanitary napkin in my boot, because I had a hole in it... things happens! ;)

I had no boot sole at all, napkins wouldn't do the trick XD
