And Gandalf also!

Image
Since I am about to leave for Xmas, a couple of Gandalfs as well. Merry Xmas to all!

Arwen by request

Image
Arwen was portrayed quite well in the films and I liked her rol and everything, but she was too soft to be among my favorite characters. She was specially good fighting the nazguls in the river...  but this was not the Arwen I had in mind before the films. She was more like this:

And an inked Gimli

Image
This is unusual because I suck at inks, but I thought that Gimli would look cooler if I did the effort and inked it before color. You tell me :)

Two pencil ones trying to draw Miranda Otto as Eowyn

Image
I was not really fond of Eowyn in the books, se was too aloof and selfish, but Miranda Otto did such a good job in the movies that she became one of my favorite characters (well, I was mostly fond of Rohan, so no surprise here). Too bad she had not do much afterwards, although I suspect that I like characters, not actors themselves :P

Theoden, Lord of the Rings ...

Image
This is king Theoden, with pencil and watercolors. I particularly liked his Ragnarok based speech at Pelenor, so he ended up being among my fav characters.

And this is another guy I like ...

Image
... since I saw him first as Xena's Caesar. He looks better as Eomer, though. This is the first pencil draft: After watching the second film, I went through a LotR drawing spree, so expect more of this around in a future :)

You can't take the sky from me

Nothing new this weekend, not much time to spare with Xmas so close and everything, so I'm uploading a couple of old sketches of one of my platonic loves (yep, I'm a bit old for this but old habits die hard), Mal Reynolds, from Firefly. Isn't it unfair that the series got cancelled after just 13 amazing episodes? Have I told you already how I hate Fox executives? At least, seems like Futurama is back ...

Fresh from the oven ...

Image
I did this one yesterday, with ink, watercolors and a touch of acrylics (I still can not deal with these ones) after watching the spanish movie REC at the cinema. Busy afternoon :P If's, of course, Yoruichi and her bodyguard, Soi, from Bleach (you'll realize soon that I'm not much into main characters).

... and a couple of older Xena sketches

Image
Found these ones on the hard drive. They are a bit old, but I have not really improved that much either ...

She was Xena, a mighty Warrior Princess forged in the heat of battle ...

Image
And, instead of Greece, she roamed north New Zealand, mostly Bethells (west of Auckland). Believe it or not, most locations in the show where actually filmed in a few hundred of square meters that are easy to spot if you travel to Bethells beach, an amazing, large sandy beach which is almost empty with respect to european standards. This one, I did there, in my notebook. Close to the beach, there is this huge dune where many episodes start or end and, for example, Xena and Callisto fought and chariots raced in the second episode. Plus behind the dune there is the lake that appears in Mortal Beloved or at the end of season 3.

And my best NZ shot: Piha beach

If I ever get lost, you can probably find me here ...

Just to upload something original ...

Image
These are a couple of quick sketches I did in Pahia Bay, New Zealand, on the Waitangi day. There are a couple of traditional huts in the place and people dance haka and celebrate understanding between the kiwi and the maori (and the rest of the population, I guess). The huts were full of amazing carvings and I did what I could to capture a couple of them in my notebook. I could not capture the red blood color, though, but it had to do ...

Just a shameless copy of Mignola's Atlantis ...

Image
... to practise inks, basically. And, guess what? a plain color is ok for this type of inks

... but with less clothes

Image
I knew that the film had a certain appealing :P

Beowulf looks like Boromir ...

Image
I watched the film yesterday and I don't know about the guy who is supposed to play the role, but the main character looks just like Sean Bean to me ...

Yesterday was pretty cold here ...

Image
So you get this quick sketch ... Just pencil and black marker

Let's start with something cute

Image
These two are early pieces of Puss in Boots, my all time favorite Shrek character. None of them are now in my hands, but I get to keep digital copies. They are both pencil and watercolors. Guess which one was my favorite :) A cat with an attitude ... A cat with ... er...

And this blog is declared officially open!

I've been thinking for a while about making a gallery of sketches to upload my stuff and classify it. However, it has taken ages and a period of time when I barely take a pencil anymore to just give up. I'm either too lazy or too busy to really organize anything. So here is the second best. I've set up this blog to put some items together in no particular order. If you think you catch a pattern, please share! So bear with me and just feel free to give any opinion on the art. It's going to be a ride! Cheers, everyone, Cris
